An increased number of students is enrolling in marine related studies in Iceland. Registrations have never been as high with a 12% increase in enrollments from the previous year in 10 different programs. A record was broken in fisheries science at the University of Akureyri with a total of 83 students but the numbers have been growing rapidly since 2009. Furthermore there is a 67% increase of students at the Icelandic college of fisheries which offers various secondary level courses in fisheries and aquaculture. A raised interest in the marine industry is prominent among young people with new opportunities following innovation and development in the industry.
