Fimmtudaginn 8. nóvember var haldinn fundur í fundaröð Íslenska sjávarklasans um nýtingu aukaafurða í St. John´s á Nýfundnalandi. Fundurinn var haldinn á vegum the Canadian Center for Fisheries Innovation. Fundinn sóttu um 50 manns úr atvinnu- og háskólasamfélaginu.
Á fundinum kynntu forráðamenn Íslenska sjávarklasans hvernig fullvinnslu væri háttað á Íslandi og hvað aðrar þjóðir gætu lært af reynslu Íslendinga. Á Nýfundnalandi er vaxandi áhugi fyrir fullvinnslu afurða og nú þegar teikn eru á lofti um að þorskstofninn við Nýfundnaland fari vaxandi er skýr vilji Kanadamanna að standa vel að veiðum og vinnslu.Last Friday, a presentation was held in St. John’s in Newfoundland as a part of the Turning Waste into Value meeting series. The event was hosted by the Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation and around 50 guests attended. Representatives from the Iceland Ocean Cluster did their presentation on the Icelandic experience of by-products and demonstrated how other nations could benefit from Icelandic processing methods. With signs of the Canadian cod stock steadily recovering, Canadians have increasingly become interested in complete utilization of fish.
